    Nairobi Stock Exchange Index Rises on Energy, Banking Stocks Rally

    The Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) index edged higher by 2 basis points on Wednesday as gains in Car and General (9.61%), Sameer (5.2%), Portland (4.1%), Centum (3.9%) and Express Kenya (3.7%) offset sell pressure in Unga Group and Uchumi (-6a%), Nairobi Business (-5%) Kakuzi (-2.3%) and Britam (-2.1%).

    Due to positive momentum, the overall market edged up by 0.2%.  Stockbrokers reported that the energy index rose by +0.3% and banking climbed by +0.2%.

     In its daily market report, Pergamon Investment Banking said NSE 10 and NSE 25 indices rose by 0.2% each, while NSE 20 counters grew by 0.5% on average.

    Total value of all trades executed in the Nairobi Stock Exchange rose by 17.0%, from Kenyan shillings (KES) 793.99 million to KES 929.34 million, due to a 21.5% surge in volumes traded from 21.88 million shares to 26.59 million shares.

    Safaricom was the day’s top mover with KES 469.61 million in turnover, followed by KCB Group and Equity Group with KES 173.71 million and KES 66.63 million in turnover, respectively.

    Foreign activity jumped to 51.1%, with a net foreign outflow of KES 68.50 million from KES 49.60 million. Safaricom and Equity Group experienced a net foreign outflow, while KCB Group had a net foreign inflow.

    Secondary bonds’ value traded edged down by 3.8% from KES 15.02 billion to KES 14.46 billion despite the number of deals rising from 214 to 235. FXD1/2022/25yr, recently reopened in July, was the most traded with KES 3.47Bn in turnover. BUA Cement Grows Profit by 80% in H1-2026
