Pi Network Gains Ahead of Protocol 27 Mainnet Upgrade

Pi Network price rose 0.72% to $0.0919, moving independently as Bitcoin fell 1.9%, driven primarily by anticipation of its upcoming Protocol 27 mainnet upgrade scheduled for September 15, 2026.

Social chatter and a news report from Tokocrypto highlight that “Protocol 27” is scheduled to enter mainnet on September 15, 2026.

The upgrade is framed as the final test before mainnet and includes features such as a native DEX/AMM in the Pi Wallet. This narrative provides a forward-looking catalyst for a token that has been building a price base.

The price move is less about current utility and more about speculative positioning for a perceived milestone. Confirmation of the upgrade’s technical details and any pre-launch testing reports as the September 15 date approaches.

The 24-hour trading volume of $4.61 million represents a 27.94% decline from the previous day, indicating the uptick was not driven by a surge in new capital or a major, unseen catalyst. The move decoupled from a falling broader market, showing isolated, low-conviction buying.

The rise appears fragile and reliant on the single narrative; a lack of supporting volume or derivatives data makes it hard to identify other contributing factors.

The immediate technical path is defined by a known catalyst and clear levels. The upcoming Protocol 27 launch on September 15 is the primary event.

Analysts note key resistance at the 50-day average of $0.0951, the round number $0.10, and a major supply zone at $0.11 where previous liquidity is trapped.

The bias is cautiously bullish toward the event, but the path is littered with overhead resistance. A daily close above $0.0951 to signal momentum toward the $0.11 target; a rejection here could lead to a retest of the $0.075 support base.

Pi’s modest gain is a bet that its upcoming mainnet upgrade will overcome persistent headwinds from token unlocks. Analysts believe Pi will reclaim the $0.0951 level with conviction before the September 15 launch, or it will fade back into its multi-month range.

The Pi Core Team has enabled visibility into live smart contract activity within the Pi Wallet on the testnet. As of August 27, users can observe functions such as server_auto_release and release_booking_escrow tied to a booking app using Test-Pi.

This marks the first time non-developers can directly watch contract logic execute on their mobile devices.

This is a bullish development for user experience and ecosystem transparency, as it demystifies smart contracts for millions of Pioneers. It builds confidence ahead of the critical Protocol 27 mainnet upgrade targeted for September 15, 2026.
