Ethereum Climbs on Extended Rally Amid Glamsterdam Alert
Ethereum extended its rally to Thursday, up by 1.08% to $2,488.71, outperforming a slightly negative Bitcoin and showing independent strength, primarily driven by sustained institutional demand via spot ETF inflows.
U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs recorded their seventh consecutive day of net inflows, with a single-day inflow of $180 million. Total August subscriptions have surpassed $1.2 billion, directly absorbing circulating supply and providing a steady bid under the price.
Concurrently, 21Shares rebranded its fund to the “21Shares Ethereum Staking ETF,” emphasising yield and aligning with a trend of institutional preference for staked products.
This isn’t speculative retail buying; it’s structured capital entering through regulated channels, which tends to be more stable and supportive of prices.
The move extends a powerful weekly rally, with Ethereum breaking out from around $1,950 and triggering heavy liquidations of bearish derivatives positions.
While the most acute squeeze occurred days ago, it established strong bullish momentum. Furthermore, developer progress on the Q4 2026 Glamsterdam upgrade, which aims to triple base throughput, maintains a positive long-term narrative.
The market is trading with a bullish bias, supported by recent price action and upcoming network improvements, though these are not new 24-hour catalysts.
Technically, ETH is testing near-term resistance after its rally. The key Fibonacci 23.6% retracement level at $2,374 now acts as immediate support.
The next major catalyst is the progression toward the Glamsterdam hard fork in Q4 2026. If buying pressure, particularly from ETFs, continues and the price holds above $2,374, a retest of the swing high at $2,545 is likely.
However, the 14-day RSI at 77.61 signals overbought conditions, raising the risk of a corrective pullback. A break below $2,374 could trigger a retreat toward the more significant 50% retracement level at $2,183.
The path of least resistance remains cautiously higher, but the rally is mature and susceptible to a consolidation or pullback. Technical traders set a decisive break above $2,545 as a continuation, or a loss of $2,374 as a deeper correction.
Ethereum’s gains are fueled by persistent institutional ETF inflows, providing a solid demand base amid broader market consolidation and positive developer activity.
Ethereum core developers have alerted L1 smart contract maintainers to the upcoming Glamsterdam hard fork. The upgrade, scheduled for Q4 2026, will reprice gas costs for state operations (EIP-8037, EIP-8038) to better reflect actual resource use.
While most contracts will be unaffected, a small subset with hardcoded gas assumptions could break. This is a neutral technical update.
The proactive alert demonstrates responsible developer stewardship and aims to ensure a smooth network upgrade, which is crucial for long-term scalability and stability. Gas repricing is a prerequisite for future increases in base-layer throughput.Ethereum Price climbs to $2,450 on Spot ETF Inflow
