Delta Earmarks N75bn for Projects in 25 LGAs

The Delta Government says it is injecting the sum of N75 billion for road projects across the 25 local government areas of the state.

The State Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr Charles Aniagwu disclosed this during the ministry’s 2026 budget defence meeting with the State House of Assembly Committee on Works.

Aniagwu said,” The sum of N3 billion has been earmarked for each of the 25 local government areas across the state.

”This allocation is aimed at accelerating the execution of vital road projects, ensuring equitable distribution of roads infrastructure and deepening access to more host communities.”

He also noted that aside from the N3 billion earmarked for each LGA, the ministry in anticipation of undertaking new projects in the 2026 fiscal year, it also made provision of N15 billion for each senatorial district of the state.

”This strategic provision is designed to serve as an alternative source of funding for the execution and payment of critical projects that may not be adequately accommodated under the local government allocations.

”Through this financial arrangement the ministry seems to ensure continuous progress and disbursement of funds on all its projects, ” he said.

He explained that the ministry placed emphasis on capital development which constitute the bulk of the 2026 budget.

The commissioner added that this  reflected the state government’s continued commitment to completing of ongoing projects as well as initiating new ones that would enhance rural and riverine connectivity across the state.

Reviewing the 2025 budget implementation, Aniagwu noted that the ministry recorded 80 per cent out of the N125 billion approved capital budget.

According to him, the ministry received a total disbursement of N101.2 billion, which was applied to the payment of completed projects, ongoing works and critical maintenance interventions across rural and riverine corridors.

Aniagwu therefore, assured the committee of the ministry’s commitment to inclusive development, economic empowerment and social cohesion across all parts of the state.

Responding, the Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Mr Oboro Preyor, commended the ministry for its outstanding performance.

According to him, ministry of Works is one of the ministries that have made us proud as a state. Delta now have value for every money spent.

Preyor however, stressed the need for the ministry to be specific in budgeting projects. According to him, budget is all about specifics.
