XRP Jumps 6% on Ripple Prime Private Placement Optimism
Ripple (XRP) gained 6% in 24 hours to $1.06 on Wednesday, slightly outperforming Bitcoin, primarily driven by a combination of positive company news and a strong market-wide rally.
Investors increased their positions amid optimism about Ripple’s institutional expansion, including a new banking partnership in South Korea and a $275 million fundraising round, which boosted sentiment.
Ripple announced two key developments on August 19: a partnership with Jeonbuk Bank to deploy Ripple Payments in South Korea, and a $275 million private placement for its prime brokerage arm, Ripple Prime.
This news, coupled with a 109% surge in trading volume, signalled strong institutional confidence and acted as the primary catalyst.
Crypto analysts said corporate developments are providing fundamental support, but direct demand for the XRP token from these deals remains uncertain.
XRP’s move aligned with a 4.86% rise in the total crypto market cap, driven by positive macroeconomic data, including slowing inflation and strong ETF inflows.
Furthermore, XRP is a top asset in the trending “SEC/CFTC Digital Commodities” narrative, with the entire category up 5.93% in 24 hours. The rally was amplified by favourable market-wide conditions and investor rotation into regulated, large-cap assets.
The technical structure shows immediate resistance at the recent swing high of $1.07. Holding above the 50% retracement support at $1.03 could maintain bullish momentum.
The next major market event is the scheduled release of 1 billion XRP from escrow on September 1, which historically adds modest supply pressure.
The short-term bias is cautiously bullish but dependent on holding key levels amid high leverage and an overbought signal.
Ripple’s prime brokerage unit, Ripple Prime, raised $275 million through a private placement of senior unsecured notes.
This fresh capital, following a $200 million credit facility secured in May, is earmarked to fund the expansion of its U.S. operations in financing, clearing, and multi-asset brokerage services.
The unit, built from the acquisition of Hidden Road, handles trillions in annual clearing volume. This is bullish for XRP’s ecosystem as it signals strong investor confidence in Ripple’s financial infrastructure.
The expansion deepens integration for Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD, and could eventually increase institutional usage of XRP-linked services, though the impact on the token’s price remains indirect.
