    US Dollar Rises Ahead of Four Fed Appearances

    The US dollar rose against its major trading partners early Wednesday before a quiet data schedule for the remainder of the day that includes only weekly petroleum stocks data.

    Earlier Wednesday, the Mortgage Bankers Association said that mortgage applications rose further in the week ended Nov. 15 even as mortgage rates rose for the fourth straight week to their highest level since July.

    Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michael Barr is set to speak followed by appearances by Fed Governor Lisa Cook at 11:00 am ET, Fed Governor Michelle Bowman at 12:15 pm ET and Boston Fed President Susan Collins at 4:00 pm ET.

    A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Wednesday USDEUR fell to 1.0554 from 1.0595 at the Tuesday US close and 1.0564 at the same time Tuesday morning.

    There are no Eurozone data on Wednesday’s calendar, but European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde is due to speak at 8:00 am ET, followed by ECB Vice President Luis de Guindos at 1:00 pm ET. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for Dec. 12.

    GBPUSD fell to 1.2668 from 1.2679 at the Tuesday US close but was above a level of 1.2636 at the same time Tuesday morning. UK consumer prices rose solidly in October after a flat reading in September, while core consumer prices growth accelerated, data released overnight showed.

    Bank of England Deputy Governor David Ramsden is scheduled to speak at 11:00 am ET. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for Dec. 19. USDJPY rose to 155.8497 from 154.6846 at the Tuesday US close and 154.0714 at the same time Tuesday morning.

    The Japanese trade deficit widened in October, according to data released overnight. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for Dec. 18-19.

    USDCAD rose to 1.3983 from 1.3963 at the Tuesday US close but was below a level of 1.4023 at the same time Tuesday morning. There are no Canadian data on Wednesday’s schedule. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for Dec. 11. Naira Rises against US Dollar Ahead of Sept. FX Auction
