Tinubu Orders EFCC to Vacate Court Order on Osun’s N11bn Probe

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately return to court and vacate the order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun State Government, describing the timing of the agency’s action as “deeply embarrassing.”

The directive was disclosed on Thursday in a statement issued by the President and shared by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

The EFCC had, on August 5, 2026, secured a court order freezing Osun’s accounts. Less than 24 hours later, the Commission confirmed the move was linked to an ongoing probe that began in March 2026. The investigation centers on alleged fraudulent handling of Ecology Funds, Intervention Funds, and FAAC allocations amounting to N11 billion.

In his statement, President Tinubu clarified that his concern was not with the EFCC’s mandate or the court order itself, but with the optics of the timing.

“I must state that I feel deeply embarrassed not by the EFCC’s exercise of its mandate backed by a court order, but by the timing of the agency’s action,” Tinubu said. “This is so because every action taken by an institution of State, especially at the Federal level, is always credited to me, as the President, even when I may not have had any prior knowledge of the action.”

The President ordered the EFCC to “immediately proceed to the court to vacate the order and discontinue whatever action it has instituted against the Osun State Government in this regard.”

He reiterated that since assuming office, his administration has maintained that anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies must operate independently and professionally, “without fear or favour, or political interference.” #Tinubu Orders EFCC to Vacate Court Order on Osun’s N11bn Probe# Why 57 Properties Linked to Malami Should Be Forfeited Permanently -EFCC
