Spurs Beat Atletico 3-2, Crash Out 7-5 on Aggregate

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Atletico Madrid 3-2 but exited the UEFA Champions League after a 7-5 aggregate loss in their last-16 tie.

Spurs entered the match needing to overturn a 5-2 first-leg deficit but fell short despite a spirited performance at home.

Randal Kolo Muani gave Spurs hope with a 30th-minute header from Mathys Tel’s cross to reduce the deficit. Julian Alvarez restored Atletico’s advantage early in the second half with a superb long-range strike.

Spurs responded quickly as Xavi Simons scored a fine curling effort to keep their comeback hopes alive. The hosts pushed forward, creating chances, but were repeatedly denied by Atletico goalkeeper Juan Musso.

Atletico dealt a decisive blow in the 75th minute when David Hancko headed home from Alvarez’s corner. The goal effectively ended Spurs’ hopes of overturning the aggregate deficit despite their attacking efforts.

Simons later converted a stoppage-time penalty after being fouled, sealing a deserved win on the night. However, the result was insufficient as Atletico progressed to the quarter-finals with a 7-5 aggregate victory.

Spurs showed improvement under manager Igor Tudor, earning their first win since his appointment. The performance followed a recent draw at Liverpool, offering encouragement despite European elimination.

Defensive lapses in the first leg ultimately proved costly for Spurs in the two-legged contest. Atletico will now face Barcelona in the quarter-finals as they continue their European campaign.

Spurs shift focus to the Premier League, where they battle to avoid relegation this season. They next face Nottingham Forest in a crucial league fixture at home. #Spurs Beat Atletico 3-2, Crash Out 7-5 on Aggregate#
