Renewed Hope Initiative: FG Launches Ward-Based Stimulus Plan

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP), a ward-based stimulus plan designed to empower 8.8 million Nigerians across the country’s 8,809 electoral wards. This initiative aims to stimulate economic growth, generate employment, reduce poverty, enhance food security, and improve social protection at the grassroots level.

The programme targets at least 1,000 economically active individuals in each ward, providing them with support to boost economic activity. It is a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local governments, funded through increased revenues in the Federation Account and supported by various development initiatives.

President Bola Tinubu emphasized that the nation’s economy is working and on the path to recovery, but state governments need to stimulate growth in rural areas. The programme is anchored on President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2030, requiring a growth rate of 15%.

The RHWDP has received full endorsement from the National Economic Council, with the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning serving as the coordinating secretariat for its implementation. A National Steering Committee comprising representatives from all six geopolitical zones will oversee the programme

The initiative is designed to decentralize development, empower local communities, promote entrepreneurship, and create jobs directly within local economies. It marks one of the most ambitious attempts yet to align economic planning with Nigeria’s local governance structure, ensuring that no community is left behind in national development efforts

By focusing on grassroots economic development, the RHWDP aims to unlock the potential within every ward, stimulating economic activity and fostering job creation. The programme’s success will depend on robust oversight mechanisms to prevent mismanagement and ensure sustainable impact beyond short-term relief. #Renewed Hope Initiative: FG Launches Ward-Based Stimulus Plan#
