Inflation Rate Slows to 3.1% in Rwanda

The annual inflation rate in Rwanda fell for the fourth straight month to 3.1% in January 2024 from 6.4% in December 2023.

It was the lowest inflation rate since January 2021, with food prices rising the least in 22 months (2.9% vs 9.1% in December), amid falls in vegetables (-1.9% vs 9.4%) and bread & cereals prices (-1.9% vs -3.4%).

Also, prices increased less for transportation (5.0% vs 5.3%), restaurants & hotels (8.0% vs 9.6%); clothing & footwear (1.0% vs 4.9%); transportation (5.0% vs 5.3%).

Simultaneously, housing & utilities prices continued to decline (-1.0% vs -1.2%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped by 0.9% in January, following a 4.4% fall in the previous month. #Inflation Rate Slows to 3.1% in Rwanda#
