Glovo, NIPOST Collaborate to Address E-Commerce Barriers

Glovo, Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) and Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, are brokering a collaboration to address barriers to e-commerce growth in the country via an e-commerce summit.

Mrs Lamide Akinola, the General Manager, Glovo Nigeria, on Friday in Lagos, said the summit aimed to accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s e-commerce industry.

Akinola said the event scheduled for Feb. 5, 2025, with the theme: “Accelerating E-commerce through Digital and Physical Infrastructure Integration,” would bring together key industry stakeholders.

She said they would discuss challenges and opportunities in the sector, while charting a path toward sustainable growth.

She added that the event would feature a keynote speech from Dr Bosun Tijani, Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

According to her, his address will provide critical insights into the government’s vision for advancing digital commerce and fostering a more inclusive economy. “This event marks a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s e-commerce sector.

“At Glovo, we are committed to fostering an ecosystem where businesses especially Small and Medium Enterprises can thrive through digital transformation.

“By launching the ‘Yellow Effect Report’ in Nigeria, we aim to provide actionable insights that will drive sustainable growth in the industry,” she said.

Tola Odeyemi, Postmaster General, NIPOST, noted that while the country’s digital economy continued to evolve, its e-commerce growth was hindered by logistical gaps, particularly in last-mile delivery.

Odeyemi described the summit as an essential step towards integrating policy, innovation, and infrastructure to drive inclusive economic growth.

She said the collaboration with Glovo was a step towards a future to ensure that digital commerce reached every corner of the country, unlocking economic opportunities and driving national development.

“A major highlight of the summit will be the launch of Glovo’s Yellow Effect Africa Report—a first-of-its-kind study that examines how Glovo is contributing to the digital transformation of local economies across Africa,” she said.

Chidera Akwuba, Regional Head, Government and Public Relations, sub-Saharan Africa, Glovo, said that collaboration was key to unlocking Nigeria’s e-commerce potential.

Akwuba said discussions at the event would strengthen the digital and physical infrastructure needed to scale digital commerce sustainably.

She said that Glovo, with a vision to build the largest online marketplace, giving everyone access to anything in their city within minutes could not be more elated about this collaboration.

“This landmark event is expected to lay the groundwork for transformative policies and strategic partnerships that will propel Nigeria’s e-commerce industry forward.

She said the summit would create a seamless logistics network to enhance efficiency, accessibility, and economic opportunities for businesses and consumers alike.
