Executive, Legislature Will Liaise on ICAN Act Review- Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima says the executive and legislative arms of government will liaise to review the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) enabling Act of 1965.

Shettima gave the assurance when he received a delegation from the institute on a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday.  Naira Skids as FX Turnover, External Reserve Decline

He said that the review would ensure that its current practices are in harmony with global standards and international best practices.

The Vice-President said that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration would continue to use their expertise and solutions in moving the economy forward.

“We are very proud of your accomplishments, apolitical stands on issues, standing with the interest that supersedes other considerations. Our task reform committee is headed by one of your best.

“We will liaise with the National Assembly and see to it that the 1965 Act which has become obsolete and outlived its usefulness is reviewed, taking into cognizance the views and perspectives of your members.”

Earlier, ICAN President Innocent Okwuosa, solicited the VP’s support in ICAN’s bid to review its Act currently before the National Assembly.

Okwuosa commended the policies of the administration such as the fuel subsidy removal and unification of the foreign exchange rates, among others.

He described them as bold and courageous, noting that they reflect the thrust of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration.

Okwuosa said that the institute would continue to contribute to the development of the nation’s economic policies and national development.

He said that the institute would accelerate its research works and participate more in government committees and offices.
