Equities Investors Lose N306bn as Nigerian Exchange Index Slips

Equities investors lost about N306 billion on Friday as the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) All-Share Index (ASI) declined by 19 basis points.

The local bourse closed the week in negative territory due to fresh profit-taking in recently appreciated medium- and large-cap stocks such as PRESCO, UBA, TRANSCORP, FIRSTHOLDCO, among others.

The All-Share Index fell by -474.00 basis points to close at 247,357.40. Also, stock market capitalisation reduced by ₦305.82 billion to close at ₦159.59 trillion.  Despite the bearish close, the overall market posted a positive week-on-week performance.

Total volume and the total value of transactions executed in the local bourse declined by -21.45% and -41.47%, respectively. Stockbrokers reported that approximately 614.55 million units valued at ₦32,950.87 million were transacted across 55,282 deals.

ACCESSCORP topped the volume chart, accounting for 20.98% of all companies’ shares traded in the market, followed by FIRSTHOLDCO (5.80%), CHAMS (5.70%), ZENITHBANK (4.99%), and UBA (4.98%).

ARADEL led the value chart, accounting for 20.16% of total transaction value, thereby making it the highest traded on the exchange.

CNIF led the gainers chart, up by +10.00%, then trailed by CILEASING (+9.48%), CORNERST (+9.09%), RTBRISCOE (+8.61%), HONYFLOUR (+7.38%), AFRIPRUD (+6.98%), and twenty-six others.

A total of twenty-five stocks depreciated. With a price depreciation of -10.00%, PRESCO topped the worst performers’ chart, followed by THOMASWY (-9.93%), TRANSEXPR (-8.44%), ROYALEX (-7.86%), LIVINGTRUST (-7.32%), and CUTIX (-6.90%).

Hence, the market breadth closed on a positive note, as there were 32 gainers and 25 losers. Sectoral performance was negative today as three of the five major market sectors declined.

The Banking sector led the decline by -0.40%, followed by the Oil & Gas sector (-0.04%), and the Industrial Goods sector (-0.004%). The Insurance sector and the Consumer Goods sector increased by +0.68% and +0.25%, respectively. #Equities Investors Lose N306bn as Nigerian Exchange Index Slips# NGX Nears N160trn on New Shares Listing, Banks Stocks Rally
