Transcorp Power Spikes 10% as Investors Stake Post-Earnings Bets
Transcorp Power Plc.’s 7.5 billion outstanding shares surged by about 10% on Wednesday as investors staked post-earnings bets on the power-generating company on the local bourse.
Trading data from the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) showed that share volume rose for the second day, lifting the company’s valuation to N1.522 trillion.
Investors began positioning for the company’s future earnings stream, expecting improved performance, after Transcorp Power told analysts at a conference that it plans to increase its availability and power-generating capacity.
Transcorp Power’s price rose 14% as investors re-entered positions after the Q3 earnings announcement. Transcorp Power posted N83.1 billion in net profit, down from N91.7 billion in the same period in 2025, reflecting endemic challenges in the Nigerian energy sector.
Investors bet on the earnings outlook as the group maintained its 2026 guidance amid operational challenges. The company said endemic challenges, including vandalism of critical transmission infrastructure and constraints on power evacuation, affected Q3 earnings.
However, the company told investors that the outlook is positive after the government settled its debt and took significant measures against infrastructure vandalism.
The 550MW power-generating company revealed a plan to boost average availability capacity, with a year-end target of 720MW. Transcorp Power operates at 450MW generating capacity with a peak generation of 520MW
Nigeria’s electricity market is undergoing a structural transition in which persistent supply constraints, cost-reflective tariff reforms and the rapid expansion of distributed solar are jointly reshaping the economics of power consumption, PAC Holdings said in a sector-focused report.
The sector offers considerable growth potential through 2030, supported by rising electricity demand, renewable energy investment and continued efforts to improve electricity access.
However, the sector’s financial outlook will depend on how effectively electricity providers convert demand into reliable supply and collectable revenues.
