XRP Slips as New York Files Lawsuit Against Prediction Platform

Ripple (XRP) price is down less than 1% in 24 hours, hovering around $1.08 on Friday and closely tracking a broader market decline driven primarily by macro uncertainty and a New York lawsuit against Kalshi, a prediction market platform.

Analysis of historical trading data indicated that XRP has gained over 3.8% in July, snapping a 2 months losing streak in the crypto market, but still trailed Bitcoin (9%) and Ethereum (20%).

The token price movement reflects broader market pullback, as XRP moved in lockstep with Bitcoin (-1.26%) amid hawkish Fed sentiment and geopolitical tensions.

The total cryptocurrency market capitalisation fell 0.87% to $2.26 trillion. Bitcoin has fallen to $63,700, while Ethereum dropped to $1,880. Sector performance was mixed: the CeFi sector gained 1%, while the SocialFi and Real-World Assets (RWA) sectors each declined by 2%.

Traders said this correlation points to a macro-driven move, with investors cautious after the Federal Reserve’s hawkish hold on interest rates and ongoing U.S.-Iran tensions.

XRP is acting as a high-beta asset, its near-term direction heavily influenced by overall crypto market sentiment rather than its own fundamentals.

The provided news and social data show no specific catalyst for XRP in the last 24 hours. Recent headlines discuss older regulatory developments and a South Korean scam case, but none explain the immediate price action.

The decline is not driven by a sudden, negative XRP-specific event, which reduces the risk of a sharp, sustained sell-off.

Technically, XRP is trapped between dynamic resistance at its 50-day and 100-day moving averages – converging near $1.10 – and solid support at $1.05.  If XRP holds $1.05, it may continue consolidating; a break below opens a path toward $1.00.

The structure is bearish until key resistance is broken, but the tight range suggests a breakout is needed for a clearer directional trend. A daily close above $1.10 would signal a potential shift in momentum.

XRP is caught in a tug-of-war between broader market weakness and its own key technical levels, with no fresh catalyst to break the stalemate.

Ripple will unlock 1 billion XRP from escrow on August 1, valued at approximately $1.08 billion, as part of its monthly schedule established in 2017.

Historically, the company re-locks 60-80% of these tokens, with only about 300 million XRP entering circulation each month in 2026.

This is a routine bearish factor for XRP. While the event is predictable and often has a muted immediate impact, it represents a consistent source of sell-side pressure.

The market’s focus has shifted to broader catalysts, but the unlock adds to the available circulating supply, which can cap upside momentum in the short term.

Meanwhile, New York State has filed a lawsuit against prediction market platform Kalshi, alleging illegal gambling operations and seeking up to $36 billion in damages, fines, and restitution.

The state argues that Kalshi’s event contracts constitute unlicensed gambling and expose residents to financial risk, while simultaneously accusing the platform of tax evasion.

This legal action represents a significant escalation in the regulatory battle between state authorities and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which recently attempted to block New York from enforcing such actions to maintain federal jurisdiction.

For the investment community, this creates substantial uncertainty for the entire prediction market sector; if New York succeeds in clawing back profits or forcing a shutdown.

This could set a precedent that severely limits the operational scope and valuation models for platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi nationwide. Cardano Price Increases 8% as Investors Stake New Bets
