XRP Price Tops $1.52 Ahead of Ripple XRPL Protocol Upgrades
Ripple (XRP) price rose 2.5% to $1.5211 on Monday, slightly outperforming the broader market, driven mainly by anticipation of imminent XRP Ledger protocol upgrades.
Buying interest was bolstered in anticipation of key XRPL amendments (PermissionDelegationV1_1 and BatchV1_1) scheduled for activation on October 8 and 9, which promise enhanced functionality for developers and institutions.
Two conditional protocol amendments are approaching activation: PermissionDelegationV1_1 (Oct 8) and BatchV1_1 with a security fix (Oct 9). These upgrades aim to improve transaction batching and delegated permissions, catering to more complex institutional use cases.
The price rise reflects trader optimism that these technical improvements could bolster the network’s utility and long-term demand.
The market is positive on the price outlook as XRP Ledger rolls out a roadmap focused on privacy upgrades and AI-driven payments to target institutional and machine-to-machine adoption.
Ripple engineers outlined new confidential transfer and permission tools that add zero-knowledge style privacy while keeping compliance features.
At XRP Seoul 2026, Ripple’s Ayo Akinyele described a privacy roadmap for XRP Ledger that centres on “Confidential Transfer” and related amendments for batch processing and permissions.
The confidential transfer design aims to encrypt token balances and transfer amounts while leaving identities visible, using zero-knowledge proofs so institutions can keep workflows private while still proving transaction validity to the network and regulators.
The same roadmap includes transaction batching, formal verification and adversarial testing to make complex operations more secure and efficient, plus amendments like PermissionDelegation and Batch upgrades that tighten account-level permissions and multi-step settlement flows.
These changes are pitched as a way to make XRPL more suitable for banks and enterprises that need auditability with selective confidentiality
XRP’s gain occurred alongside a positive move in the total crypto market (+1.76%) and Bitcoin (+2.09%). Its performance was closely correlated, suggesting the move was partly driven by general market sentiment rather than isolated alpha.
The data’s lack of a clear, singular macro driver suggests XRP benefited from risk-on flows into crypto assets.
The immediate trigger is the upgrade activation sequence starting October 8. Technically, XRP faces resistance at $1.52–$1.55 (the recent swing high and a descending trendline).
A daily close above $1.55 could open a path toward the Bollinger Band resistance near $1.63. However, the 14-day Relative Strength Index at 75.73 signals overbought conditions, increasing near-term pullback risk toward the $1.45 support.
The outlook is conditionally bullish but vulnerable to a “sell the news” reaction if the upgrades fail to spark immediate spot buying. Spot trading volume will confirm any breakout; a lack of volume would weaken the rally’s sustainability.
A catalyst-rich week and positive market beta pushed XRP higher, but the rally now tests a critical technical ceiling.
On the AI side, autonomous agents already use XRP Ledger via the x402 protocol, which lets software pay for online services like data and compute. Reports from RippleX and the XRPL AI Hub say tracked x402 payments on XRPL recently reached 11,965,947, growing from 1 million to 10 million in under three months, with a seven-day average around 525,618 payments per day.
Payments can use XRP or Ripple USD (RLUSD), a dollar-backed stablecoin that enables dollar pricing for AI services, and the roadmap adds agent-specific infrastructure such as verifiable identities, spending controls and secure smart wallets.
XRP Ledger’s privacy and AI roadmap positions the network as a candidate infrastructure for institutional finance and autonomous software agents, combining encrypted transfers with programmable permissions and high-volume machine payments.
If the planned amendments are activated and widely adopted, XRPL could strengthen its niche in compliant, high-speed settlement for both humans and AI, though real-world usage and regulatory responses will determine how much of that potential is realised.
