    Wema Bank Hits N1trn as Investors Bet on Earnings Growth

    Wema Bank Plc hit N1 trillion in market capitalisation as the Tier-2 lender’s 2025 earnings boosted investors’ buying interest in the domestic equity market.

    The bank share price was re-rated amidst significant trading volume, including some notable bloc transactions among investors seeking to position after earnings.

    Trading data from the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) showed that the market value of Wema Bank Plc.’s 40.118 billion shares outstanding has increased by about 10.4% in the last seven trading sessions to N1.002 trillion as of Friday close.

    The bank share price closed at N25 on Friday, its historical trading data revealed, up from N23.4 at the beginning of the week. Wema reached an intraweek high of N25.3 on Wednesday amidst increased market activities.

    Wema Bank grew its profit by 124% year on year to N193.189 billion in the financial year 2025, from N86.279 billion in 2024. The bottom line was supported by significant gross earnings growth, settling at N653.380 billion in 2025, up by 51% year on year from N433.434 billion in 2024. 

    Investors stake bets on 47% year on year earnings per share growth in 2025. Details from 2025 results indicated that earnings per share increased by 47% to 708.15 kobo from 483.10 kobo in the comparable year in 2024. Transcorp Power Profit Rises by 14%, Board Hikes Dividend
