UBA Surges by 11% on Earnings, Interim Dividend Hints

United Bank for Africa (UBA) gained 11% on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) as investors bet on the group’s H1-2026 earnings and interim dividend hints.

According to its latest trading data, UBA’s share price climbed by 10.97%% week on week to N45.50 as of Friday close, up from N41 at the beginning of the week, driven by increased market activity.

In anticipation of the half-year earnings release, demand for UBA shares increased. A slew of BroadStreet analysts told MarketForces Africa that UBA will maintain the half-year dividend payment tradition.

Trading below its 52-week high, stock market analysts anticipate a re-rating of UBA to align with Tier-1 banks’ experience, in anticipation of robust results from the Group’s diversified portfolio.

In its stock recommendation report, Cowry Asset Management Limited sets UBA’s target price at N60.2, while analysts estimate 36% upside potential at the reference price.

The investment firm projected UBA earnings per share to surge by 36.33% to N4.24, reflecting its expectation of a robust increase in profitability.

UBA also commenced a close period on July 1, the day on which insider trading is expected to cease until the group’s H1-2026 earnings scorecard is released to the market.

This confirms that the increase in market activity in the Pan-African lender is non-insider-related, signalling that investors are consolidating positions without internal influence.

Stockbrokers said the half-year earnings release will be a core catalyst for UBA re-rating on the local bourse. A slew of stock analysts continues to urge investors to buy UBA, citing upside potential, earnings record, and dividend history.

The stock market value of the Pan-African financial services group, with 44.196 billion outstanding shares, increased by 10.97% to N2.010 trillion – tracking its 52-week high.

In line with the post-listing requirements of Nigerian Exchange Limited, UBA told its shareholders, NGX, and the investing public that the Board of Directors of the Bank is scheduled to meet on Thursday, August 13, 2026, to consider, amongst other matters, the 2026 Half-Year Audited Financial Statements and Reports for the period ended June 30, 2026.

The group hinted that the meeting may also consider, amongst others, the proposal for recommendation of an interim dividend for shareholders

In compliance with the post-listing requirements of NGX for listed companies, UBA declared the commencement of the closed period for trading in the Bank’s shares from July 1, 2026, in respect of the 2026 Half Year Audited Financial Statements and Reports for the period ended June 30, 2026, until the expiration of twenty-four (24) hours after the release of the results.

Hence, the group and the regulator expect no insider of the Bank and their connected persons to deal directly or indirectly in the shares of the Bank during the closed period.
