Pension Operators Commit N241bn to Infrastructure, Target N300bn — PenCom

The Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms Omolola Oloworaran, says pension fund operators have committed N241 billion to infrastructure development through the industry’s infrastructure consortium under a framework established in conjunction with FSD Africa.

Oloworaran, who also chairs the Pension Industry Leadership Council (PILC), disclosed this at a news conference after the council’s fourth meeting in Lagos on Thursday.

She said the commitment was part of the industry’s efforts to mobilise long-term capital for infrastructure development in the country.

According to her, the commitment is expected to increase to nearly N300 billion as the industry gains more confidence in the initiative.

She said actual investments through the infrastructure consortium were expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027, in line with the industry’s implementation timetable.

“This is the first step we are taking as an industry and this is just the beginning.

“We are committed to mobilising capital within the pension industry to deepen infrastructure development in the country,” she said.

Oloworaran noted that the commission and pension fund operators were keen on infrastructure investments because they are long-term and offer protection against inflation.

She said the council had also approved an independent global benchmark maturity assessment for the pension industry.

“We think it is something we need to do in order to elevate the industry to global standards and ensure that we operate within best practices across the board,” she said.

The PenCom boss said the assessment would be concluded soon.

She also said the 2026 Pension Week would hold from Oct. 26 to Oct. 30, with further details to be provided during subsequent engagements with the media.

Oloworaran said the industry was also working on “Pension Transformation Agenda 2030”, an initiative aimed at articulating and formalising ongoing reforms.

She said the agenda would also define the direction of the industry toward 2030 and the impact it sought to make in the lives of Nigerians.  #Pension Operators Commit N241bn to Infrastructure, Target N300bn — PenCom # PenCom Extends Online Pension Verification Exercise to December
