    NGX All-Share Index Declines as Investors Book Profit

    The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) All-Share Index (ASI) declined further on Friday as investors continue to take profit amidst Q2 earnings releases from listed companies.

    The stock market closed trading activities for the month of July on a negative note, with key performance indicators showing mixed outcomes.

    The NGX-ASI declined by -0.03%, while the stock market capitalisation decreased by -0.01%, a divergence attributed to the listing of AVA Capital Plc’s 5,000,000,000 Ordinary Shares of N1.00 each at N7.50 Per Share on the Main Board of Nigerian Exchange Limited.

    The market index fell by -78.58 basis points to close at 245,283.68, while equity investors’ combined wealth declined by ₦13.24 billion to close at ₦158.33 trillion.

    Stockbrokers reported a slowdown in market activities. Total volume and the total value of all transactions executed in the local bourse declined by -55.14% and -79.75%, respectively. 

    In a note, Atlass Portfolio Limited told investors that approximately 942.98 million units valued at ₦46,739.44 million were transacted across 55,480 deals.

    CHAMS drove volume, accounting for 8.60% of all units traded in the market, followed by STERLINGNG (6.33%), TIP (5.72%), JAIZBANK (5.17%), and ELLAHLAKES (4.60%).

    SEPLAT topped the value chart, accounting for 36.93% of the total value of all transactions executed in the local bourse, thereby making it the highest traded on the exchange.

    ETERNA and 2 others led the gainers chart, up by +10.00% each, then trailed by MCNICHOLS (+9.952%), HONYFLOUR (+8.96%), FIRSTHOLDCO (+8.00%), LEGENDINT (+7.95%), ABBEYBANK (+4.88%), and twenty-five others.

    A total of twenty-eight stocks depreciated. With a price depreciation of -10.00%, FTGINSURE topped the worst performers’ chart, followed by CAP (-9.97%), VERITASKAP (-9.49%), VITAFOAM (-7.70%), TIP (-6.67%), and NAHCO (-6.63%).

    Hence, market breadth closed on a positive note, with 33 gainers and 28 losers. The sectoral performance was positive today as three of the five major market sectors increased.

    The Banking sector appreciated by +1.90%, followed by the Insurance sector (+0.75%), and the Industrial goods sector (+0.10%).
