LIRS Extends Deadline for Filing Employers’ Annual Tax Returns

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing of employers’ annual tax returns by a week, from Feb. 1 to Feb. 7.

The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr Ayodele Subair, in a statement on Friday, explained that the statutory deadline for filing of employers’ annual tax returns was Jan. 31 every year.

Subair said that the extension was intended to provide employers with additional time to complete and submit accurate tax returns.

He said that employers must give priority to the timely filing of their annual returns, adding that compliance should be embedded as a routine business practice.

The chairman reiterated that electronic filing through the LIRS eTax platform remained the only approved method for submitting annual returns, as manual filings had been completely phased out.

“Employers are therefore, required to file their returns exclusively through the LIRS eTax portal: https://etax.lirs.net,” he said.

Subair described the platform as secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24/7.

He advised employers to ensure that the TaxID (Tax Identification Number) of all employees were correctly captured in their submissions.

Subair urged employers to visit any LIRS office for further enquiries or assistance, or contact the service through its website and other official channels. Wema Bank Bolsters Earnings, Expands Balance Sheet
