Iran Puts Cost of War at $270 Billion

The Iranian Government has on Tuesday estimated that the cost of the war launched by the United States (U.S.) and Israel since February is $270 billion.

The government spokeswoman, Fatemeh Mohajerani, told the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti that the figure was a preliminary estimate.

According to Mohajerani, the first step in putting a more complete figure on the extent of the reparations will be to evaluate damage to buildings.

With this, the economic losses and lost tax revenues would be analysed. She said that the Iranian government would seek compensation from the U.S. and Israel.

He added that the topic has been part of the negotiations with the U.S. during the landmark direct talks in Islamabad over the weekend

Meanwhile, Masoud Pezeshkian has blamed the United States (U.S.) for the collapse of recent peace talks, citing what he described as excessive demands and insufficient political commitment from Washington.

In a phone call with Emmanuel Macron, Pezeshkian said the factors had prevented an agreement from being finalised, according to Iran’s state-run broadcaster PressTV.

“In spite of the expert understandings reached between the parties, the excessiveness and lack of political will of senior U.S. officials have prevented the agreement from being finalised,” he was quoted as saying.

Pezeshkian emphasised that diplomacy remained Iran’s preferred approach, provided that the country’s national dignity and sovereignty are preserved.

The U.S. and Iran held direct negotiations over the weekend in Islamabad under Pakistani mediation, but the talks ended without a concrete outcome.
