    Investors Trade 3.25bn Shares Valued at N238bn in Nigerian Market

    MarketForces Africa| The Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX) recorded a total turnover of 3.249 billion shares valued at N237.986 billion in 287,919 transactions during the week.

    This compares with 3.647 billion shares valued at N130.151 billion traded in 244,777 deals in the previous week. As a result, the value of transactions on the NGX rose by 82.9 per cent.

    Meanwhile, the NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalisation appreciated by 2.78 per cent and 2.90 per cent respectively, closing the week with a gain of N4.57 trillion.

    The Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 2.581 billion shares valued at N97.212 billion traded in 138,900 deals. This contributed 79.43 per cent and 40.85 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

    The Services Industry followed with 131.102 million shares worth N2.731 billion in 15,084 deals. The third place was the ICT Industry, with a turnover of 114.622 million shares worth N21.541 billion in 29,152 deals.

    Trading in the top three equities, namely Fidelity Bank Plc, Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc and Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, accounted for 1.229 billion shares worth N15.942 billion in 7,796 transactions.

    This contributed 37.83 per cent and 6.70 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively. Fifty-two equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than nine equities in the previous week.

    Thirty-two equities depreciated in price, lower than 80 equities in the previous week, while 63 equities remained unchanged, higher than 58 recorded in the previous week.

    UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust, Sovereign Trust Insurance, Mutual Benefits Assurance, Nigerian Exchange Group and First Holdco were the top five gainers for the week, having gained N4.80, 52k, 65k, N31.90 and N24, respectively.

    The top five losers for the week were Transcorp Power, John Holt, Ellah Lakes, Livingtrust Mortgage Bank and Omatek Ventures. The companies declined by N41.60, N1.70, N1.85, 55k and 17k, respectively.

    NGX notified the public that an additional 26.56 billion ordinary shares of Abbey Mortgage Bank Plc had been listed on its Daily Official List. The exchange said the shares, valued at 50k each, were listed on Thursday, Sept. 17.

    Also, the same day, an additional 1.069 billion ordinary shares of Critical Minerals Financing Corporation Plc valued at 50k each was listed. Equities Investors Gain N2.27trn, Market Cap Hits N162trn
