FG to Construct 250 Units Housing Scheme in Calabar- Minister

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to construct 250 housing units in Calabar, Cross River State, as part of the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme. This initiative aims to address the country’s housing deficit and provide affordable housing options for Nigerians. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Ahmed Dangiwa, made this announcement during a courtesy visit to the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V, in Calabar.

The housing project will feature one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments, designed to be expandable to suit the needs of civil servants and other beneficiaries. The construction will be carried out in two phases, with 125 units per phase, and is expected to be completed within six months. The project’s uniqueness lies in its flexibility, allowing beneficiaries to expand their homes as their needs and financial capabilities grow.

The Renewed Hope Housing Scheme is a significant initiative aimed at bridging the housing gap in Nigeria. The project will not only provide affordable housing options but also stimulate economic growth and create jobs. According to Dr. Francis Ekpenyong, Head of the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme, the project has been awarded to eight contractors, with four focusing on construction and the other four on infrastructure development, including water, electricity, and roads.

The project is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, creating a minimum of 1000 direct and indirect jobs for the people of Cross River State. This will not only provide employment opportunities but also inject new life into the local economy. The project’s infrastructure development will also improve the overall quality of life for residents in the area.

The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V, has commended the Federal Government for selecting Calabar as one of the locations for the housing scheme. He, however, urged the government to ensure that the project is completed within the specified time frame and to standard. The Obong also advised the contractors and officials of the housing scheme to carry the community along in the execution of the project, ensuring that the needs and concerns of the local residents are addressed.

Dr. Ekpenyong appreciated the Obong for providing 25 hectares of land for the housing scheme, demonstrating the importance of collaboration between government agencies and traditional institutions. The project’s success will depend on effective implementation, community engagement, and collaboration between all stakeholders.

The Renewed Hope Housing Scheme is a flagship program of the Federal Government aimed at providing affordable housing options to Nigerians. The scheme is designed to address the country’s housing deficit, which has been estimated to be over 17 million units. The program’s focus on mass housing delivery, infrastructure development, and community engagement is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians, particularly in urban areas where the demand for housing far exceeds the available supply.

The construction of 250 housing units in Calabar is a significant development in the Federal Government’s efforts to address the country’s housing deficit. The project’s focus on affordability, expandability, and community engagement demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing decent housing options for Nigerians. With effective implementation and collaboration, the project is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, providing employment opportunities and improving the overall quality of life for residents in the area.

As the project progresses, it is essential to ensure that the needs and concerns of the local community are addressed, and that the project is completed within the specified time frame and to standard. The Federal Government’s commitment to transparency and accountability will be crucial in ensuring the project’s success.

The Renewed Hope Housing Scheme has already commenced in 12 states across the country, demonstrating the government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of Nigerians. The project’s success in Calabar will serve as a model for other states, showcasing the potential of public-private partnerships in delivering affordable housing options.

In conclusion, the construction of 250 housing units in Calabar is a significant step towards addressing the country’s housing deficit. The project’s focus on affordability, expandability, and community engagement demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing decent housing options for Nigerians. With effective implementation and collaboration, the project is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and improve the overall quality of life for residents in the area. #FG to Construct 250 Units Housing Scheme in Calabar- Minister#
