Equities Investors Lose N91bn as Nestle, Cadbury, Oando Dip
Equities investors trading highs and lows on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) platform lost more than N91 billion on Monday as shares of Nestle, Cadbury, Oando, and other decliners dragged the indices lower.
The domestic bourse opened trading for the week on a negative note, with a 0.07% decline in key performance indicators. Stockbrokers said profit-taking continued in medium- and large-cap stocks ahead of the third-quarter earnings season for the financial year 2026.
Notable decliners on the local bourse include NESTLE, CADBURY, OANDO, TRANSCORP, and other lightweight-listed companies.
The market index, or All-Share Index, fell by -140.41 basis points to close at 250,667.86. Market capitalisation also fell by ₦91.16 billion, closing at ₦162.75 trillion.
The total volume and total value of all shares traded increased by 57.10% and 48.25%, respectively. In a note, Atlass Portfolio Limited told investors that approximately 875.28 million units valued at ₦40,876.45 million were transacted across 53,887 deals.
ACCESSCORP topped the volume drivers, accounting for 50.54% of all shares traded on the exchange, followed by CMFC (6.63%), UBA (5.21%), FIDELITYBK (3.93%), and CHAMS (2.96%).
As expected, ACCESSCORP drove the value chart, accounting for 32.43% of total trade value, making it the most traded on the exchange.
SOVRENINS topped the gainers chart, up +10.00%, followed by FTNCOCOA (+9.97%), TRIPPLEG (+9.87%), LEARNAFRCA (+9.80%), LIVESTOCK (+9.55%), NEIMETH (+8.72%), and seventeen others.
A total of twenty-nine stocks depreciated. With a price depreciation of -9.80%, CMFC topped the worst performers’ chart, followed by ABCTRANS (-9.46%), AFRIPRUD (-7.31%), JAPAULGOLD (-6.94%), WAPIC (-6.36%), and CONHALLPLC (-5.91%).
Hence, market breadth closed negative, with 23 gainers and 29 losers. Sectoral performance was negative today, with three of the five major market sectors declining.
The Insurance sector fell 1.15%, followed by the Consumer goods sector (-0.71%) and the Oil & Gas sector (-0.05%). The Banking sector and the Industrial goods sector rose by 0.07% and 0.001%, respectively.
