Eguavoen to Continue in Eagles’ Role, Madugu Takes Over Super Falcons

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have confirmed that Augustine Eguavoen will continue in his role as Head Coach of the Super Eagles.

The News Agency reports that Eguavoen took charge of the Super Eagles in an interim capacity.

This was following the failure of the NFF to appoint a substantive head coach for the team in time for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

There were however reports that Eguavoen had left the job after the Super Eagles 0-0 draw with the Amavubi of Rwanda.

The 58-year-old, in temporary charge of the squad he had  led three times previously, steered the three-time African champions to a 3-0 defeat of Benin Republic and scoreless draw with Rwanda in Match days 1 and 2 earlier this month.

A statement by Ademola Olajire, NFF’s Director of Communications on Thursday confirmed that the federation had approved that Eguavoen continues in his role as Head Coach of the team.

“The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

“The approval is for the Federation’s Technical Director, Coach Augustine Eguavoen to continue in his role as Head Coach of the Super Eagles.

“He will lead the team in its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya next month,” he said.

Olajire  said that Eguavoen and the current technical crew that also includes Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa and Tomaz Zorec would continue to work together.

He said  that they will also take charge of the Super Eagles B team for the qualifying campaign for the 2025 African Nations Championship, otherwise known as CHAN.

Olajire added that with the departure of Mr. Randy Waldrum, the Executive Committee also approved the recommendation of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee for Coach Justin Madugu to lead the Senior Natonal Women’s Football team.

He said that Madugu and the remaining technical crew would take charge of the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, pending the appointment of a substantive head coach. #Eguavoen to Continue in Eagles’ Role, Madugu Takes Over Super Falcons
