Delta Assembly Passes 2026 Appropriation Bill of N1.729trn

The Delta House of Assembly on Monday passed the state appropriation bill of N1.729 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year. The budget was approved by voice votes at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Dennis Guwor in Asaba.

The passage of the appropriation bill followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee Chairman on Finance and Appropriation, Mrs Marilyn Okowa-Daramola (Ika North East).

Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, had on Nov. 26, presented the budget proposal Christened:”Budget of Accelerating The MORE Agenda ” of N1.664 trillion to the assembly for approval.

Presenting the committee’s report, Okowa-Daramola noted that out of the amount, N500 billion was for Recurrent Expenditure, while N1.229 trillion was for Capital Expenditure.

She said that the recurrent expenditure represents 30 per cent of the budget, while the capital expenditure represents 70 per cent.

Okowa-Daramola also noted that the increase of the 2026 budget size could be attributed to the growth in the national economy and improve internally generated revenue projection.

The committee chairman also noted that the appropriation bill reflected a well balanced, people-oriented and development-driven blueprint for the state.

”It is our firm conviction that with disciplined implementation and continuous legislative oversight when signed into law, the proposed 2026 budget will accelerate socio-economic transformation, promote inclusive growth and improve the standard of living of our people, ” she said.

Consequently, the Leader of the Assembly, Dr Emeka Nwaobi (Aniocha North), moved a motion for the adoption of the bill and the motion was seconded by Mr Oboro Preyor (Bomadi).

The motion for the third reading was also moved by the leader, and was  seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Arthur Akpowowo, when put to a voice vote by the speaker.

The speaker, Dennis Guwor, thereafter directed that the bill’s clean copy be forwarded to the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori for assent. He commended the lawmakers for the speedy passage of the bill.

”At this juncture, I wish to deeply appreciate Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, our dear Governor, for his vision of unparallel development of the State.

”Again, my sincere appreciation goes to every member of the House; your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the service of  the people of Delta have made this process fruitful.

”We have worked with speed and thoroughness, and the result is a robust and forward-looking financial plan for the year 2026. ”Thank you, Honourable Members. And God bless Delta State, ” he said. #Delta Assembly Passes 2026 Appropriation Bill of N1.729trn#
