Authority Commits to Support Investment in CNG

The Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), has restated commitment to support investors to fastrack establishment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centres in the country.

Alhaji Samuel Shuaibu, North-West, Regional Coordinator, NMDPRA, said this in an interview with the News Agency on Friday in Kaduna.

He said the authority initiated a Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), designed to partner with interested companies towards developing robust domestic gas consumption in Nigeria.

“We have a directorate that is charged with the responsibility of ensuring financial support to investors and also partner with them, and we can even take equity in businesses in terms of gas businesses.

“So, we have a directorate that also supports every gas initiative whether CNG or others as long as it has to do with domestic gas consumption,” he said.

He said that anyone interested in the CNG business should obtain licences from the NMDPRA being the agency regulating the mainstream and downstream sectors.

Shuaibu said the authority’s mandate is to ensure that CNG distribution facility to be established obtain licences for its operations to guarantee safety of the people and environment.

According to him, CNG will reduce over reliance on petrol and reduce cost of transport, adding that it offers big business opportunity for interested investors.

He advised investors to partner with the presidential CNG initiative, to enhance supply of cheaper and cleaner fueling alternative for Nigerians.

“If you are able to provide CNG for your vehicle, you will prefer it than spending more money on petrol that will do the same thing at a lower cost.

“So, the market is there, it’s just for the investors to come into the space and take advantage of it,” he said.

He said authority had issued CNG licences to GreenVille facility located at Kakau in Kaduna State, adding that other companies also got similar approval to either construct or establish their facilities.

While urging Nigerians to support the initiative, Shuaibu described CNG as clean energy that protects the environment and improved lives. #Authority Commits to Support Investment in CNG
