Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa Launches Free Cooking Gas Distribution in Agege

Mr Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, Chairman, Agege Local Government of Lagos State, has inaugurated a welfare programme providing free three-kilogram cooking gas refills to 4,000 residents.

Speaking during the exercise on Saturday, Obasa said the initiative aims to ease rising living costs and offer immediate household relief.

The council’s distribution spanned seven wards, using refill centres to ensure order, equity, and participation, underscoring structured, transparent, inclusive grassroots interventions.

Obasa described the initiative as a practical response to harsh realities confronting households, adding that leaders must translate concern into tangible action that residents can directly experience.

He stressed that governance must go beyond policy statements to focus on interventions delivering immediate value.

Obasa added, “From food subsidies to cooking gas support, our focus is on programmes that deliver immediate relief.”

He said the programme is part of broader people-centred palliatives to ease economic pressure while promoting clean, safe cooking energy, reinforcing sustainable community welfare. The chairman commended the beneficiaries’ orderly behaviour and council staff dedication.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to practical, people-focused governance, promising continued interventions that directly address grassroots needs during challenging economic times.

A beneficiary, Mrs Aishat Bello, said: “Buying gas has become very expensive. This support means a lot. It shows the chairman understands our struggles.”

Another beneficiary, Mr Chinedu Okafor, said: “Critics overlook the importance of immediate support. When you struggle to cook for your family, this kind of help matters. It reduces stress and gives hope.”

Mrs Grace Inyang, a civil servant, emphasised: “We all want sustainable development, but people also need relief now. This programme strikes that balance, combining compassion with practical support for households.”

Mr Musa Abdullahi, a beneficiary, countered criticisms: “Long-term solutions are important, but families must survive today.

“This support shows empathy and responsible leadership during difficult economic conditions nationwide.” #Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa Launches Free Cooking Gas Distribution in Agege#
