Shell Sees Opportunities for Nigerian Coys in Offshore Developments

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SNEPCo) says Nigerian companies have a lot of opportunities to grow if they can take more advantage of its offshore and shallow water operations.

Ronald Adams, the SNEPCo MD, made the remark in a statement issued to newsmen by Gladys Afam-Anadu, Communications Manager, SNEPCo, on Friday in Yenagoa.

According to the statement, Adams spoke at the just concluded 5th Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, saying that some offshore project like Bonga Southwest Aparo could grow Nigerian businesses.

Represented by Charles Oranyeli, Head, Supply Chain, Adams said that other projects that could also uplift the businesses were Bonga North and Bonga Main Life extension.

He said that if they could apply themselves seriously to executing higher value contracts, it could also improve their expertise. He said that SNEPCo pioneered Nigeria’s deepwater frontier with the Bonga development as the first deepwater oilfield exploration and production venture in the country.

Adams said that the operations had greatly benefitted Nigerian businesses, while expecting them to get ready to take up more opportunities.

He said that Nigerian companies could upgrade their skills and continue to offer services in logistics, drilling, fabrication, and construction of subsea manifolds; mooring and loading systems; and pressure vessels.

Adams added they could also offer services in the provision of gas processing equipment in deep water, as well as procurement and civil works in shallow water. According to him, since starting production at Bonga in 2005, SNEPCo has been supporting Nigerian contractors and service providers to grow their capacity

‘’The support has been through the development of systems and a competent workforce with the aim to deliver projects safely, on time and within budget not only in Nigeria but also in the West African subregion.

‘’The efforts have enabled Nigerian companies to play prominent roles in the safe and efficient operations of the Bonga Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.

Adams said that the Bonga FPSO had produced the 1-billionth barrel of oil from the field on February 3, 2023. According to him, SNEPCo sees Nigerian content development as a business driver and not a regulatory requirement.

‘’SNEPCo will continue to support our companies to play even bigger roles in their support for oil and gas operations,’’ he said. NOGOF was hosted by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

The theme of the event was: “Driving Investment and Production Growth: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry Through Indigenous Capacity Development.” #Shell Sees Opportunities for Nigerian Coys in Offshore Developments Dangote Refinery to Commence Polypropylene Export
