Ethereum Price Climbs Ahead of Glamsterdam Testnet Launch
Ethereum (ETH) is up 0.76% to $2,684.65 on Saturday, outperforming a flat broader market, driven mainly by a rotation of capital into altcoins.
The primary driver appears to be a market-wide rotation into altcoins. Ethereum’s path is defined by a significant technical milestone as it enters testing, countered by a pullback in institutional ETF interest.
The Altcoin Season Index rose 18.37% in 24 hours to 58, signalling increased capital flow toward higher-beta assets like Ethereum. This shift often occurs when Bitcoin’s dominance stagnates, as seen with BTC dominance flat at 58.87%.
After a period of inflows, U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs recorded net outflows of $59.6 million, $55.4 million, and $17.3 million on three consecutive days, according to Farside Investors data.
This suggests a short-term cooling in institutional demand. This is a bearish short-term signal for ETH price, as it indicates selling pressure from regulated products. It contrasts with a constructive long-term supply backdrop, where exchange reserves remain at multi-year lows.
Ethereum is attracting relative strength as traders diversify from Bitcoin, a typical risk-on behaviour in a neutral-to-bullish macro environment.
The trading data reflects no specific news, on-chain catalyst, or extreme derivatives activity for Ethereum in the past 24 hours.
While recent news covered ETF outflows and dormant wallet movements, these events preceded the current period and do not directly explain today’s modest gain. The price move lacks a single, identifiable secondary catalyst and is more consistent with broader market flows.
Ethereum is consolidating below a key resistance zone between $2,750 and $2,800. The immediate technical structure is neutral with a slight bullish bias, as the MACD histogram is positive at 1.68.
The nearest concrete catalyst is the Glamsterdam upgrade’s public testnet activation scheduled for October 6. The path of least resistance is higher if buyers can absorb selling pressure at the current resistance level.
A daily close above $2,800 would confirm a breakout, with initial support to hold at $2,630–$2,650. Ethereum’s gains are fuelled by rotational flows rather than organic demand, leaving it vulnerable if broader market sentiment shifts.
Ethereum is balancing a major technical test with cautious institutional flows, while AI narratives hint at future utility. The Glamsterdam hard fork is scheduled to begin testing on the Sepolia testnet.
This upgrade introduces changes to block construction, gas pricing, and Layer-1 scaling to improve network efficiency and prepare for further scaling. Ethereum Tops $2.74K as Binance ETH Withdrawal Hits 3Y High
