Zcash Gains 19% in 24hrs as Capital Flows to Grayscale Zcash Trust
Zcash (ZEC) is up 19% to $1,192.17 over the past 24 hours, massively outperforming a flat Bitcoin and driven by a powerful short squeeze amplified by institutional ETF demand.
The surge was driven by a severe short squeeze, fueled by the new Grayscale Zcash ETF (ZCSH), which forced leveraged bears to cover positions and created explosive upside momentum.
The rally was triggered by a cascade of short liquidations as Zcash broke above $1,000 for the first time since 2016. About $13.24 million in ZEC positions were liquidated in 24 hours, with $11.26 million coming from shorts.
This squeeze was primed by capital inflows into the Grayscale Zcash Trust (ZCSH), which converted to a spot ETF on August 25 and saw its assets surge past $400 million, providing a regulated bid for the token.
The move was driven more by derivatives unwinds and new institutional access than organic spot demand, making it prone to high volatility.
The provided data points overwhelmingly to the short squeeze and ETF catalyst as the core drivers. While the successful Ironwood hard fork in July 2026 resolved a security bug and restored long-term confidence, its direct impact on the 24-hour surge appears secondary.
ZEC is deeply overbought, with its RSI-14 at 80.23. The immediate technical test is whether the $1,000–$1,050 area, the recent breakout zone, holds as support.
The next major resistance is the 127.2% Fibonacci extension at $1,202. The key near-term trigger is the momentum of Grayscale’s ZCSH ETF flows; sustained accumulation could support prices, while a slowdown may leave the over-leveraged market vulnerable to a sharp pullback.
Crypto analysts said the trend is powerfully bullish but extended, increasing the risk of a near-term correction. A daily close below $1,000, which would signal a failure of the breakout and could trigger further long liquidations.
The explosive rally is a classic short squeeze supercharged by the novelty of a U.S. spot ETF, but parabolic moves often need consolidation.
ZEC’s market capitalisation surpassed HYPE, making it the 9th-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, with a current market cap of $19.16 billion. Zcash Tops $1,000 as Investors Rotate into Privacy Coins
