Sanwo-Olu Seeks Electricity Stakeholders’ Action to End  Blackouts

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called for concerted efforts among electricity key stakeholders to end blackouts and build a sustainable 24-hour power economy in the state.

Sanwo-Olu made the call on Thursday at a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the state government to address challenges confronting the state’s electricity sector and identify practical solutions to improve power supply.

The governor said the state government had the political will to implement necessary reforms and create an enabling environment capable of attracting investments into the sector.

He urged stakeholders, including power generation and distribution companies, regulators and investors, to put hands on deck to achieve reliable electricity supply for Lagos residents and businesses.

According to him, improved power supply is critical to the overall well-being of Lagos residents and the growth of businesses.

“Lagos has the political will to ensure that we implement the necessary reforms and attract the investments required to deliver reliable electricity.

“We must all put our hands on deck because a stable electricity supply is essential to the well-being of our people and the growth of our businesses,” he said.

The Minister of Power, Mr Joseph Tega, said that Nigeria  would need to move toward modern transmission infrastructure and stronger system planning to develop a vibrant electricity framework.

Tega said that modernising the transmission network would help to address systemic challenges and provide a stronger foundation for sustainable power generation and distribution.

He commended Lagos State Government for commitment to developing a thriving electricity sector.

“We commend Lagos for its leadership and commitment to creating an electricity sector that can support economic growth and improve quality of life of its people,” he said.

The Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Energy, Mr Sabur Oluwa, said the meeting had produced renewed commitment and concrete actions to move Lagos forward as Nigeria’s economic powerhouse.

Oluwa said that Lagos was open to investments, stressing that stable electricity supply would significantly strengthen the state’s attractiveness to investors and businesses.

“The decisions reached here must translate into action.

“Lagos is open for serious investments, but stable power supply is fundamental to unlocking the full potential of our economy,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by the state Deputy Governor, Mr Obafemi Hamzat; Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Biodun Ogunleye; and Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN).

Representatives of electricity generation and distribution companies and other key stakeholders in the power sector also attended the meeting. #Sanwo-Olu Seeks Electricity Stakeholders’ Action to End  Blackouts# Sanwo-Olu Pays N3.1bn Compensation to 300 Lagos Property Owners
