Fayemi Dismisses Claim of ‘Closed-Door Meeting’ with Kwankwaso

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has denied reports alleging that he held a closed-door political meeting with former Kano State Governor, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Abuja.

Fayemi denied the report in a statement by Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Head, Fayemi Media Office, on Thursday in Abuja.

The statement described the report as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard what he termed a blatant lie circulated on social media.

It said the allegation, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) through some social media handles, was accompanied by an old video clip showing Fayemi greeting Kwankwaso at his residence. It said the claim was entirely untrue and would have surprised Kwankwaso as much as Feyemi.

The statement clarified that Fayemi had only met Kwankwaso once in the past year at the public book launch of a former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN).

“At no time has Dr Fayemi held, nor is he holding, any closed-door political meeting with Senator Kwankwaso as suggested by the post.”

It acknowledged that Feyemi and Kwankwaso had been friends since their time as governors, stressing that the relationship was personal and non-partisan.

According to the statement, the friendship is based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to Nigeria’s progress, rather than any political alignment.

It cautioned against attempts by political actors to attach partisan meanings to private relationships, noting that many of his friends and associates are either not involved in partisan politics or do not share the same political affiliations.

The statement reaffirmed Fayemi’s commitment to national unity, principled engagement and responsible public discourse. #Fayemi Dismisses Claim of ‘Closed-Door Meeting’ with Kwankwaso#
