Oil Prices Dip as Saudi Provides Alternative Exports Route

Oil prices closed lower on Friday as Saudi Arabia’s efforts to restore disrupted crude flows and offer alternative export routes eased some concerns over global oil supplies, despite continued risks to oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.

International benchmark Brent crude futures for November delivery traded at $103.77 per barrel on Friday, down 1% from last Friday’s close of $104.61.

Price climbed to around four-month highs earlier in the week after attacks on Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline disrupted crude loadings at the Red Sea port of Yanbu and raised concerns over the impact on global supplies.

Saudi Arabia subsequently moved to mitigate the disruption by offering additional crude cargoes to Asian refiners through ship-to-ship transfers off Oman’s Sohar port, providing an alternative export route.

The country has also been working to restore flows through the East-West pipeline, which normally transports crude from oil fields in eastern Saudi Arabia to Yanbu on the Red Sea coast.

These measures helped ease concerns over prolonged supply disruptions and put downward pressure on prices toward the end of the week.

Meanwhile, several maritime incidents were reported in the Strait of Hormuz during the week, keeping concerns over the security of oil flows through the key waterway elevated. The incidents included vessels being struck and a reported tanker attack.

Developments in the Russia-Ukraine war also remained a factor for oil prices as attacks on energy infrastructure continued.

US President Trump has called for an “energy ceasefire” between the two countries, while both sides have continued to report attacks on energy and oil infrastructure.

The US Federal Reserve’s decision to raise interest rates by 25 basis points also weighed on prices this week, with a stronger monetary policy outlook raising concerns over economic activity and oil demand. Oil Market Momentum Slows Ahead of US Fed Rate Decision
