XRP Price Risks Free-Falling as Short Position Builds on Binance

Ripple (XRP) price stagnates at $1 on Monday, unchanged since last week, with the trading signal now indicating a potential decline as short positions begin to build on Binance.

Trading data across crypto exchanges indicate the token movement has been relatively restricted due to very weak buyer conviction despite broader market updates.

According to SoSoValue data, XRP spot ETF net inflows for last week’s trading days (Eastern Time, August 10 to August 14) amounted to $2.25 million.

The $XRP spot ETF with the highest net inflow last week was Bitwise ETF XRP, with a weekly net inflow of $2.2531 million, bringing the cumulative total net inflows for $XRP to $512 million.

As of the time of this report, the total net asset value of XRP spot ETFs reached $933 million, with the ETF net asset ratio (market cap as a percentage of XRP’s total market cap) at 1.49%, and the historical cumulative net inflows have reached $1.51 billion.

In the past 24 hours, XRP trading volume has surged 114% to $951 million in transaction value, as growing short positioning against XRP on Binance

Binance XRP open interest climbed from roughly $181 million on August 3 to $232.7 million on August 17, a 28.6% increase and the highest reading since June 2026.

The seven-day change flipped from about -$40 million on July 29 to +$38.9 million, but direction favours sellers: Binance perpetual Cumulative Volume Delta fell to -$463.2 million, and all-CEX spot CVD swung from +$153 million on August 3 to -$231.8 million.

Supply feeding the selling is thinning. Binance whale inflows dropped to a three-month average of $61 million, according to the report, the lowest since 2021.

Netflows remain positive at about $18.8 million. Santiment recorded crowd commentary at a three-month bearish peak while on-chain active addresses hit 49,929 in 24 hours, the highest in over two months.

Meanwhile, Ripple minted 10 million RLUSD on the XRP Ledger on Aug. 17, bringing the stablecoin’s circulating supply to about 1.711 billion.

XRPScan data showed Ripple’s issuer account transferred the tokens to a designated RLUSD destination account; the transaction cost 0.000405 XRP, used two authorised signers and recorded a maximum delivery amount of 10 million.

Ripple did not name the receiving customer or disclose the intended use; a mint alone does not prove that tokens entered exchanges, payment channels, or institutional portfolios, and it can reflect inventory management.

Ripple stablecoin market cap was near $1.7 billion, and 24-hour volume was around $50 million on Aug. 17. XRP Price Climbs as Ripple Launches XRPL AI Starter Kit
