Bitcoin Price Declines as Strategy Inc. Sold BTC to Purchase Stocks

Bitcoin is down more than 2% to $63.8k on Monday, closely tracking a 1.4% decline in the total crypto market cap, driven by pre-macro event caution and a technical rejection at key resistance.

The price dipped amidst broader market decline ahead of key U.S. inflation data, reflecting a risk-off tilt across crypto assets. The entire crypto market cap fell 1.4% in 24h, with Bitcoin’s drop of about 2% amidst news of the latest reduction in Strategy BTC holdings.

Strategy Inc. sold 1,690 Bitcoin for $108.6 million between August 3–9 at an average price of $64,262. This brings its recent sales to 6,916 BTC, with proceeds used to repurchase preferred stock.

The company’s Bitcoin holdings now stand at 840,447 BTC, acquired at an average cost of $75,385, meaning the latest sale was executed at a loss relative to its book value.

This is bearish for Bitcoin in the short term because it introduces direct sell pressure from one of its largest corporate holders. It signals that even staunch advocates may prioritize capital management over accumulation during periods of price consolidation.

BTC decline also aligned with investor caution ahead of high-impact U.S. economic data, specifically the July Consumer Price Index (CPI) report due August 12. A hotter-than-expected reading could reinforce Federal Reserve tightening fears, pressuring risk assets.

Bitcoin is acting as a macro proxy, with its short-term direction tied to traditional market sentiment around inflation and interest rates rather than coin-specific news. The CPI print and its immediate impact on Bitcoin’s correlation with traditional markets.

Bitcoin’s price failed to sustain a move above the $65,400 resistance level (recent swing high), leading to the current pullback.  The 24-hour spot volume surged 55.44% to $19.43B, confirming the selling pressure.

Momentum indicators are weak, with the RSI(14) at 29.78 signalling oversold conditions but not yet a reversal. The market structure remains bearish below key moving averages, and the high-volume rejection suggests sellers are active at higher prices.

The immediate trajectory hinges on the July CPI data release on August 12. If the report shows cooling inflation and Bitcoin holds above the $63,000 support, a retest of the $65,800–$66,800 resistance zone is plausible.

The invalidation risk is a break below $63,000, which could trigger a swift move toward the June low near $62,200. The market is in a holding pattern, with volatility compressed ahead of a potential catalyst.  #Bitcoin Price Declines as Strategy Inc. Sold BTC to Purchase Stocks
