Cardano Races Toward $0.20 Target Price on Protocol Upgrade Bets

Cardano (ADA) price hit $0.195, racing toward new resistance set at $0.20. ADA has sustained its latest uptrend with protocol upgrades supporting the momentum in the crypto market.

On August 4, Cardano gained over 4%, significantly outperforming Bitcoin (+1%), Ethereum (+0.3%), and the broader cryptocurrency market cap uptick.

The altcoin rally occurred against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical uncertainty, with conflicting U.S.-Iran statements over ceasefire talks and new shipping risks in the Strait of Hormuz.

During the early trading session, the coin saw a mild pullback after a strong 20.7% weekly rally. The dip appears driven by profit-taking at a key technical resistance, independent of a slightly positive broader market.

ADA surged over 20% in the past week, reaching $0.195–its highest level since July 4. The 24-hour dip represents a natural cooldown as traders take profits at a major Fibonacci resistance level of $0.196. Volume fell 12.9%, confirming reduced buying pressure.

The move is a healthy consolidation after a strong rally, not a trend reversal. A daily close above $0.196 signals breakout momentum.

The broader altcoin sector faced headwinds as Bitcoin dominance rose to 58.76% while ADA slightly eased, showing it decoupled from a slightly positive BTC.

Technical analysts said the immediate technical structure is an ascending channel from the $0.138 low. The key trigger is sentiment around sector rotation.

If buying interest returns and ADA holds the $0.174 support, a retest of $0.196 is likely. However, if altcoin outflows continue and price breaks below $0.174, the next major support is $0.162. Cardano successfully activated the Van Rossem hard fork last month, upgrading the network to Protocol Version 11.

This was the chain’s first major upgrade fully ratified through its on-chain governance system. It introduced lower smart contract execution costs, new cryptographic primitives, and improved ledger consistency. Bitcoin Trades Sideways as Strategy Inc. Reduces BTC Holding
