Bitcoin Trades Sideways as Strategy Inc. Reduces BTC Holding

Bitcoin (BTC) moved sideways in line with global crypto market performance, holding the $63k price support level amidst the latest round of BTC selling by Strategy Inc.

The digital asset maintained its steeze, keeping the global crypto market steady during early hours on Tuesday.  According to exchange trading data, the total cryptocurrency market capitalisation remained flat at $2.26 trillion.

Trading data indicated that Bitcoin traded sideways over the last 24 hours at $63,500, while Ethereum declined 1.1% to $1,870.  Bitcoin traded near $63,600, down 1% for the week.

Analysts cite the Coldcard hardware wallet exploit draining 1,367 BTC, spot BTC ETF outflows after a brief July inflow streak, and MicroStrategy’s sale of 1,637 BTC for $105 million as key pressures.

This is bearish for short-term sentiment, combining a security shock with a reduction in demand from two major buyer groups (ETFs and a corporate treasury). It reinforces cautious sentiment during a historically weak seasonal period

Strategy Inc. sold 1,638 Bitcoin for approximately $105 million last week, marking a strategic pivot from pure accumulation to active capital management.

The proceeds are designated to fund preferred stock dividends and repurchase digital credit securities, aligning with the company’s new “Digital Credit Capital Framework.”

While the firm still holds roughly 4% of the total Bitcoin supply, this sale highlights the increasing complexity of managing a leveraged Bitcoin treasury during periods of price stagnation or decline.

With the company reporting an $8.2 billion quarterly loss driven by unrealised depreciation, the decision to monetise holdings suggests management is prioritising balance sheet stability and shareholder returns over indefinite hoarding.

Crypto analysts said investors should view this not as a lack of conviction in Bitcoin, but as a necessary adjustment to maintain liquidity and service debt obligations in a challenging macro environment.
