Trump Halts Planned Iran Strike Amid Peace Push
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he has suspended plans for a major military strike on Iran after claiming that Middle Eastern allies had reached the framework of a potential agreement aimed at ending the five-month conflict.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he had decided to cancel the planned attack to allow diplomatic efforts to continue, expressing optimism that negotiations could lead to a broader peace agreement between Iran, Israel and the United States.
“Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL,” Trump wrote.
The U.S. president said the proposed agreement would include the “immediate, complete, and total opening of the Hormuz Strait” and measures to eliminate what he described as Iran’s nuclear threat. He also claimed that Israel had agreed to work alongside the United States in pursuing a diplomatic settlement that could bring the conflict to an end.
Neither the Israeli government nor Iranian authorities immediately confirmed Trump’s remarks, and Tehran did not issue an official response to the announcement, leaving uncertainty over the status of any ongoing negotiations.
Trump’s latest comments marked a sharp shift in tone from remarks made a day earlier, when he suggested his administration was prepared to resume heavy military strikes if Iran failed to move toward a negotiated settlement.
The conflict began on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched coordinated military operations against Iranian targets. Trump said the campaign was intended to degrade Iran’s missile capabilities, prevent the country from developing a nuclear weapon and curb its support for allied armed groups operating across the Middle East.
Since then, the conflict has disrupted regional security and heightened concerns over global energy supplies, particularly because of tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping lanes. The narrow waterway handles nearly one-fifth of global oil shipments, and any disruption has the potential to trigger higher energy prices and increase volatility in international financial markets.
An interim ceasefire reached in mid-June temporarily halted hostilities and raised hopes for a permanent settlement. However, the agreement collapsed within weeks after Iran was accused of resuming attacks on commercial vessels operating near the Strait of Hormuz, reigniting fears of a broader regional conflict.
The latest diplomatic development is expected to be closely watched by global markets and world leaders, many of whom have repeatedly called for restraint and a negotiated resolution to prevent further instability in the Middle East.
While Trump’s announcement suggests that military action has been put on hold, the White House has indicated that the suspension remains contingent on progress in negotiations. Whether the proposed framework develops into a formal peace agreement will likely depend on the willingness of all parties to return to the negotiating table in the coming days. #Trump Halts Planned Iran Strike Amid Peace Push# Trump Approves 30-year Nuclear Pact with Saudi Arabia
