XRP Gains as Ripple Releases $1bn from Escrow Before Protocol Update

XRP price rose by 1.8 % to $1.08, outperforming a nearly flat Bitcoin, primarily driven by Ripple’s strategic monthly escrow release, which reduced net selling pressure ahead of the key update.

Ripple executed its scheduled monthly unlock of 1 billion XRP but strategically pre-locked 700 million tokens back into escrow beforehand.

This resulted in only 300 million XRP entering the market—a significantly lower net supply increase than usual—which countered historical August selling pressure.

The manoeuvre was interpreted as a protective action by Ripple, reducing immediate sell-side pressure and providing a psychological floor for the price. Meanwhile, Bitcoin rose just 0.16%, indicating XRP’s move was driven by coin-specific factors rather than broad market beta.

The price action reflects a combination of optimistic community narratives and capital finding relative value in XRP amid a quiet market.

Technically, XRP is trading above its daily pivot point of $1.06, with immediate resistance at the 20-day EMA near $1.09 and the Fibonacci 38.2% level at $1.13.

The key near-term trigger is whether it can capitalise on the positive supply news to break above $1.09. If it fails and loses $1.06, the next major support is the recent swing low at $1.05.

The structure is set for a potential test of higher prices, but conviction remains low without a significant volume surge. A decisive daily close above $1.09 with increasing volume to confirm bullish momentum.

The combination of a supply-constructive escrow event and resilient price action sets a positive near-term tone, though it remains within a broader consolidation range.

In the new week, XRP Ledger is set to release version 3.3.0, reinstating batch transactions and delegated authorisation features that were previously withdrawn due to critical bugs.

This upgrade aims to enhance the network’s capacity for tokenised assets and global settlement, potentially improving utility for institutional use cases once the security vulnerabilities are confirmed resolved.

The xrpld 3.3.0 release is expected next week with five proposed amendments, including two revised features that were previously withdrawn after researchers found bugs that could have allowed unauthorised transactions or fee draining.

The XRP Ledger’s upcoming xrpld 3.3.0 release will ask validators to approve five amendments, including revised versions of previously flawed Batch and Permission Delegation features.
