Nigeria Endorses Proposed AU’s Institutional Reforms

Nigeria has endorsed the proposed institutional reforms in the African Union with a focus on peace, security, governance, and strengthening democratic institutions.

This is contained in a statement by Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs and issued on Sunday in Abuja by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson of the ministry.

The statement was issued against the backdrop of the ongoing 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ebienfa quoted Tuggar as saying that Nigeria also pledged to ensure stronger cooperation with international financial institutions and the private sector.

The minister disclosed that Nigeria’s position was presented by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, at the closed session of the Ordinary Session.

“The country also aligned with proposed restructurings aimed at boosting domestic and regional resource mobilisation for affordable development financing.

“Also the adoption of a continental framework on reducing inequality, built on credible data, social protection, productive jobs, and inclusive industrial policies, among others,” he said.

The minister further held talks with Baroness Chapman, Minister for International Development and Africa of the United Kingdom

This, according to him, focused on advancing preparations for the forthcoming State Visit of President Tinubu to the United Kingdom and identifying new opportunities to deepen Nigeria/United Kingdom Relations.

The meeting also exchanged views on regional priorities, reaffirming shared commitment by both countries to sustained dialogue and stronger collaboration in support of security, good governance, and economic growth. #Nigeria Endorses Proposed AU’s Institutional Reforms
