Bassey Otu Unveils ₦780.6bn ‘Inclusive Growth’ Budget for 2026

Gov. Bassey Otu of Cross River, on Tuesday, presented a ₦780.6 billion budget christened, “Budget of Inclusive Growth,” for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.

Otu said the proposal consolidated the gains of his administration’s “People First philosophy” and reflected a renewed commitment to the development and prosperity of the state.

He explained that the 2026 fiscal plan followed wide consultations with civil society, private sector players, and the general public, adding that the ₦780.6 billion budget represented a 17 per cent rise from 2025,

According to the governor, the budget is made up of N519.6 billion for capital expenditure and N260.9 billion for recurrent expenditure.

“Sectoral allocations include ₦421 billion for the economic sector, ₦163 billion for social services, ₦164 billion for administration, ₦28 billion for justice, and ₦3.6 billion for regional development

“This budget is designed to strengthen our revenue base, drive human capital growth, and secure a prosperous and resilient Cross River,” the governor said.

Reflecting on the 2025 budget, Otu said the budget christened, “Budget of Sustainable Growth,” was revised from ₦538 billion to ₦642 billion, following improved revenue performance.

He emphasised transparency and accountability, stating that they could not spend an extra kobo without the legal instrument of appropriation.

The supplementary budget of N104 billion, he said, addressed urgent road repairs, rural electrification, and funding for maternal and neonatal health initiatives.

Otu described the 2025 budget performance as one of the best in Nigeria, citing 95 per cent immunisation coverage as evidence of effective governance and part of the utilisation of the 2025 budget.

He listed key road projects such as the Adiabo–Ikoneto Road, Esuk Utan–Depot dualism, and Yahe–Ebo–Wanakom–Wanikade axis as proof of progress and gains of the 2025 budget.

The governor also noted gains in energy and health sectors, including solar streetlights and mini-grids powering rural communities across the state.

He confirmed the renovation of health centres in all three senatorial districts and near completion of the General Hospital at Ikom. #Bassey Otu Unveils ₦780.6bn ‘Inclusive Growth’ Budget for 2026#
