Kano Govt. Allocates N71bn to Health Sector for Improved Service

Kano State Government says it has allocated N71 billion to the health sector in 2024 budget to enhance health care delivery services in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kano.

He said that Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf increased the health sector allocation from N40billion to N71billion, representing a significant increase of N31billion or 78.89 per cent, when compared to the 2023 fiscal year.

The commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment in providing effective health care services in the state.

Labaran said the ministry had also recruited 36 House Officers and 70 medical officers to serve at various health facilities in the state.

He said that the newly employed medical doctors would serve at both the primary and secondary health facilities in the state.

Labarn added that the state government also employed over 70 additional nurses, midwives and deployed them to rural health facilities.

He said that healthcare personnel were also trained in order to reposition the sector to provide more qualitative healthcare delivery.

Labaran said that the state government equally re-equipped and renovated Hasiya Bayero Paediatrics Hospital in the metropolis.

“After the renovation, the governor directed free distribution of drugs/laboratory consumables to all patients attending Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital from the inception of the programme.

“The government also rehabilitated and re-equipped the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and Yadakunya Leprosy Hospital.

“It constructed and renovated Infectious Disease Hospital to accommodate new Kano State Centre for Disease Control

“PHARMA grade warehouse was constructed at Drugs and Medical Consumable Supply Agency (DMCSA) in collaboration with UNICEF.

“This administration has also established the Diphtheria Treatment Centres at Murtala Muhammad Specialist and Infectious Disease Hospitals,” he said.

Labaran added that the ministry successfully conducted the 2023 National TB Testing Week in collaboration with TB Partners as well as the phase one of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention exercise.

“The ministry successfully conducted Polio Immunization to avoid the disease resurfacing in the state and the phase one and two of Diphtheria Mass Vaccination Campaigns.

“We secured 467 cartons of consumables from the World Health Organisation (WHO) to support the fight against diphtheria in the state.

“We also distributed free maternal and child health commodities (phase 1 and 2) worth N63 million to both primary and secondary health facilities in the state,” the commissioner said. #Kano Govt. Allocates N71bn to Health Sector for Improved Service
