FG Launches Automated Passport Application Portal

The Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Federal Government, has introduced an online portal aimed at streamlining the application process for international passports.

During a review of Nigeria Immigration Service facilities in Abuja, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed the launch of an automated passport system.

The Minister had announced in December that the federal government was working to ensure a full automation system for passport applications in the country. Nigeria Eurobond Slumps after CBN Resumes OMO Auction

This digital platform is designed to provide applicants with a more convenient and secure experience while minimising direct human interactions in the passport application procedure.

Highlighting the significance of this initiative, the Minister emphasised its role in fortifying the nation’s security infrastructure and ensuring the ease and comfort of Nigerian residents.

Furthermore, the Nigeria Immigration Service has deployed personnel for document verification purposes across all local government areas nationwide, aiming to enhance the document verification process.

For Nigerians seeking to apply for international passports, the following steps have been outlined:

    Step 1:

Visit the official website, passport.immigration.gov.ng, and input your National Identification Number (NIN) to automatically populate your data from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

    Step 2:

Complete the necessary data fields as per the application requirements.

    Step 3:

Upload a passport photograph adhering to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO Standards) along with other required supporting documents.

    Step 4:

Visit an immigration office for your biometric capture.

    Step 5:

Your passport will be available for collection within two weeks
