Osagie Okunbor Retires as Shell Nigeria Country Chair After 39 Years of Service
Shell Nigeria is celebrating the retirement of its Country Chair, Osagie Okunbor, after an illustrious 39-year career. Industry stakeholders, government officials, and CEOs of oil companies gathered in Abuja on June 24, 2025, to honour Okunbor’s remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Okunbor, who joined Shell in 1986, has played pivotal roles in shaping the industry, particularly in Nigerian content, Deep-water, and Integrated Gas investments. Executive Vice President Nigeria, Marno de Jong, praised Okunbor’s leadership and relational skills, stating that he will be deeply missed.
De Jong will assume the additional responsibilities of Country Chair Nigeria, ensuring a seamless transition. Okunbor expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve his country on a global platform, highlighting the importance of Shell’s values of honesty, integrity, and respect for people.
Throughout his career, Okunbor has received numerous accolades, including the H.E. Dr Alirio Parra Lifetime Achievement Award in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry in 2022.
