NCR Hits Record High Fuels by Sentiment-Driven Rally

Trading at its 52 week high on the Nigerian Exchange, NCR Nigeria Plc delivered a decisive technical and sentiment-led performance at the start of the week on Monday.

The ICT stock extended its upward trajectory as the stock surged beyond its 50-day moving average of N54.12 today to close at N87.90 per share on NGX.

The close simultaneously matched the company’s 52-week high and its market high, underscoring the strength of the breakout and the conviction behind recent flows.

The rally translated to an absolute gain of N33.78 on its moving average, representing a robust 62.42% appreciation, as the Nigerian Exchange Bourse ended the session on a broadly positive note.

The move signals the start of a potential new rally, building on improving investor sentiment carried over from last week’s rally and reinforced by selective buying in fundamentally improving selective pick stocks.

From a fundamental perspective, the price action mirrors improving operating performance. Data from the Nigerian Exchange on Monday showed NCR climbed to N89.70, its highest valuation in 52 weeks.

NCR’s Q3 2025 results revealed significant revenue growth and improved gross profit, with profit before tax and profit after tax rising markedly an encouraging reversal against a backdrop of prior negative numbers.

These metrics have strengthened the market’s confidence in the company’s earnings recovery narrative. However, the balance sheet presents a mixed picture.

Retained earnings recorded a year-on-year loss, alongside pressure on other reserves, while total equity slipped, highlighting lingering structural challenges despite the earnings rebound.

This divergence suggests that while operational momentum is improving, balance sheet repair remains a work in progress. In light of the recent breakout and prevailing market sentiment, NCR appears to be benefiting from a bandwagon effect typical of strong positive market phases.

Momentum-orientated investors may consider accumulating on pullbacks, while medium-term holders could maintain positions to ride the trend, with disciplined risk management given the balance sheet constraints.

Fundamentally focused investors may prefer to hold and monitor for sustained equity stabilisation before aggressive positioning. NCR’s current momentum is compelling, but selectivity and timing remain critical as the market digests both the earnings recovery and the underlying financial structure.
