MTN Nigeria Dips Ahead of Scheduled Dividend Payments
The stock market value of MTN Nigeria Plc.’s 20.995 billion shares outstanding declined to N16.250 trillion ahead of the telecommunications company’s interim dividend payment scheduled for Sept. 7, 2026.
MTN Nigeria share price fell about 4% in 7 days to N774 at the close of the trading session on Friday as 2.646 million units valued at N2.050 billion were traded in the market.
The telecom giant is scheduled to pay N26 as an interim dividend to shareholders. The market anticipates dividend payment to reduce MTN’s share price, with the third-quarter earnings release anticipated to be the next major catalyst.
The company’s share price was at 7 days high of N805, closing at N774 – which further widened its upside potential. MTN Nigeria hit an all-time high of N915 per share following a strong earnings performance delivered in the first half of 2026.
The telecom company’s share price rallied fast and furious – then slowed down to allow impatient capital to mine profit with early share rotation.
It did happen. MTN Nigeria has dropped down the ladder, trading at about a 15.4% discount to its 52-week high in the stock market.
But there are a number of investment firms that stay bullish on MTN Nigeria – adjusting estimates to match their bullish sentiment. At Cowry Asset Management Limited, MTN Nigeria is rated buy with N1,012.70 set as target price for the telecom stock.
Effectively, equity analysts at Cowry Asset Limited are pricing MTN Nigeria at N23.13 trillion at their estimated fair value. The projection is not unlikely by the time the market starts to capture IHS acquisition advantages.
