CBN Allots N2.5tn in OMO Bill at 20.10% Interest Rate to Investors

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) allotted OMO bills with 141 days to maturity worth N2.523 trillion at the spot rate of 20.10% on Monday to banks and foreign portfolio investors (FPIs).

The authority conducted an open market operation where N600 billion worth of Nigerian OMO bills were offered for subscription across two tenors.

Eligible market participants were offered N300 billion worth of OMO bills with a 131-day tenor and another N300 billion worth of bills with a 141-day tenor.

Total subscription came stronger as banks and foreign investors continue to pile up positions in high-yield money market instruments in Nigeria’s high-interest-rate economic environment.

Total subscription for the OMO auction summed up to N3.444 trillion, according to the primary market auction report released by the CBN.

The breakdown showed that Nigerian OMO bills expiring on December 22, 2026, attracted N3 trillion in total subscription, reflecting aggressive bets on longer-duration naira assets. Meanwhile, OMO bills maturing on November 24 attracted N444.5 billion, beating its offer size.

Eventually, the CBN allotted 141-day OMO bills totalling ₦2.523 trillion at the auction at the rate of 20.10%. No sale was recorded for the 113-day OMO instrument. CBN Cuts Rate on 364-Day Nigerian Treasury Bills, Rejects N2.4trn
